Embrace Something New
I think sometimes we get ourselves so caught up in a rut and a lot of the time we tell ourselves that we are happy and content and just carry on the way you do day in day out. If this makes you happy then fantastic but for me, I have to add something creative into each and every day. This can range from writing the blog, poetry, making things with clay, cement, wax, resin, you name it I’ll have a go at it. Being creative is in my very core and gives me an escape from everyday stresses and worries. Being able to express yourself in so many different ways is good for the soul.
We Need To Learn To Play
We definitely need to be able to celebrate our inner child, switch off and play. It doesn’t mean you have to paint but even kick a football around with your kids more, go to the park and enjoy it with them. I had such an amazing time at the park with my grandson during the filming of The Fast Fix. Not only was I having fun, I was enjoying my time with him and sharing precious memories. But also I was playing! I was going on the swings, the roundabout you name it I had a go on it and I had a great time.
Unfortunately, we did not see it in the final edit of The Fast Fix Clinic but after getting below 14st I was finally able to have a horse riding lesson. This was something I had been wanting to do for such a long time and I was finally able to do it.
It was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’ve always loved horses there is something magical and majestic about them; very spiritual animals. I was a kid again, it was a beautiful feeling. I shall have to start saving now so I can have some more lessons. What I am trying to say here is that next week I am 49 so it is never too late to learn something new or fulfil your dreams.
Painting And Drawing
Now during my time at The Fast Fix Clinic, I gave a painting lesson to both Steve and Jeana. Steve had always wanted to have a go and not only was he really good he really enjoyed doing it too. He said he would do it again when he gets home and that is fantastic. Painting isn’t something to be scared of and it gives people so much pleasure and a place to retreat to.
Now if you really don’t want to paint due to either cost or some other reason get yourself a colouring book and some great felt tips. Not only does it help you switch off it takes your mind off of eating rubbish. Quite often at night or on weekends I will get the felt tips out and before you know it 2 hours have passed and I’ve not thought about food once.
If you want to take up painting visit the website SAA it is a great website for new artists. When I was in the nursing home industry I used their products to teach the residents.
Take Up A New Hobby
I hope the above has inspired you to take up a new hobby, revisit an old one or even get you thinking about taking something up. I bought a sewing machine a couple of years ago and once I have finished sorting out my son’s old bedroom I am going to get back into sewing and attempt to make something to wear.
There are so many things you can do the list is endless. You could even take up a night class in woodwork, flower arranging, dressmaking, yoga, belly dancing, history I could go on and on here. If you don’t know what you want to do ask our old friend Google and see what comes up. But as far as I am concerned hobbies and interests enrich your lives and that is important. So give something a go and I would love to know what you choose and let me know how you get on.
