Pud In A Mug
Good day to you all I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. Today is going to be a food post. I hope you enjoy it. I’m sure you have all seen on the internet photos of cake cooked in a mug. I have done this myself and it was very successful. I went to the shops at the weekend and found a packet version so I thought I would give it a go and let you guys know how it turned out. The manufacturer is Dr. Oetker which I am sure you are familiar with. I will take you step by step through the process of “pud in a mug”. It is described as “chocolate cake mix with chocolate pieces and a rich chocolate sauce – just add milk for a quick and easy treat”
Measure 60ml semi skimmed milk (approx 4 tbsp) into a 250ml mug. I actually used skimmed milk with no problem.
Empty the contents into the mug and stir until smooth (I actually do this in reverse I don’t know if I’m being a bit daft I just find it easier to make something like that smooth by adding liquid to the dry ingredients)
Microwave on full power for 50 seconds (800w). Obviously, adjust this to your tastes. I cooked mine for 40 seconds initially as my microwave is 1000w, I then did another 5 seconds.
Now I know that doesn’t look like something you would get at a restaurant. My mug was too big too but I wasn’t sure how much it would rise. To make it look a bit more appetising I transferred it to a bowl. There was just the right amount of chocolate sauce at the bottom. I added some sliced strawberries and some squirty cream.
I’m not a chef so I am sure someone else could make it look a lot nicer, I just added a sprinkle of icing sugar and job done.
I have to say, hand on heart it was surprisingly nice. The sponge was light and a good taste of chocolate. A nice bit of chocolate sauce went really well with the whole thing. I would definitely do this again. The packet was on offer and it was less than a pound which isn’t bad. To be honest, I think you would get away with serving this as a desert, no one would know it came from a packet.
As you can see there was none left apart from a bit of abstract art in the bottom of my bowl.
Definitely, give it a try guys I don’t think you will be disappointed. They had another variety which I think was choc chip sponge which I will try next.
Have a fabulous week guys and will catch you soon.
