My Top 10 Movies
Shawshank Redemption has to be the number 1 out of my top 10 movies for me. I have lost count how many times I have watched this but then I can say that about all of them. I love Morgan Freeman’s voice as he narrates throughout this. Definitely Stephen Kings best film to date.
Schlinders List is such a powerful, heartbreaking and moving film. Set in German-occupied Poland during World War II, Oskar Schindler gradually becomes concerned for his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazi Germans. Brilliant performances by Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Kingsley. The little bit at the end of the film is just beautiful and so touching it definitely has to be in my top 10 movies.
I have always been fascinated by this doomed ship Titanic since a child. It doesn’t matter how many times I watch it I’m still hoping it doesn’t hit the iceberg; ridiculous I know. Such a sad loss of life in a world that class was everything and lives meant nothing. It’s an immense romantic disaster movie. At the time it cost a wapping $200 million to make and won 11 Oscars. This is the reason my daughter ended up with Rose as a middle name.
Love love love this film. Gladiator is Russel Crowe at his best and in my humble opinion, he should have won the Oscar for this.
Maximus to Commodus: “My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”
Most bad ass quote of all time. This film kicks ass.
Gone are the days when they used to fasten bits and pieces to real lizards and pretend they were dinosaurs; will never forget those films as a child. This at the time Jurassic Park was just amazing. A park employee attempts to steal dinosaur embryos, critical security systems are shut down and it becomes a race for survival with dinosaurs roaming freely over the island. To be honest I love all the Jurassic films.
What is not to love about this film. I love this Toy Story it’s one of the best Disney films to date no one does a child targeted movie but makes it fantastic like Pixar does. This movie shows what your imagination can do and that’s how the movie was created. All the characters are fantastic the film is just magical.
The Silence of the Lambs
Every second of this masterpiece is perfectly crafted. It is the most spine-chilling, horrifying journey into the human psyche imaginable and it terrifies me every time I watch it. There will never be a better movie made than this one and the performances by Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster were the greatest. The Silence of the Lambs is one of the few films that live up to the book.
I just love the Alien franchise. This is a classic film and still doesn’t look dated. When it comes to being the master film of Sci-Fi Horror, Alien takes out that championship. Slow building suspense pays off as the crew of the Nostromo bring the unwanted and unlucky company of an extraterrestrial abroad their ship. Without any artillery, they use other tactics to try and survive. This film is full of so much despair that even though the ending was satisfying it still makes you feel like there is no hope. Academy award winning excellence, behind a stellar cast.
Another film where I have lost count of how many times I have seen it. I know the special effects in Jaws have dated slightly but at the time it was just terrifying. When I see a shark I hear that music in my head. Richard Dreyfuss I love anyway and he is also in another film that will be next in this list. I did watch this again this week actually but all I could see was Keith Lemmons version in my head which was just hilarious.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
I think this was one of the first films I saw at the cinema and definitely has to be in my top ten movies. Close Encounters is the film that started my love of movies. The whole experience of a luxury setting and a big screen to immerse yourself in. The special effects are still amazing. To be honest this may actually have to be my number one instead of Shawshank. Again a brilliant performance by Dreyfuss. My favourite version has to be the extended version directors cut it still gives me goosebumps.
Now I’ve written about my top 10 movies I have an undying urge to watch them all. I think tonight is going to be Close Encounters for me. What is your favourite film and why?
