It’s Been A While
Thought I’d write a bit of an update as I’ve been a bit quiet recently. Quiet with this blog but busy in the background. So here is a bit about what I’ve been doing:
A Darker Shade of Blue – Mental Health Awareness
I am still collecting poems for the anthology “A Darker Shade of Blue”. You may or may not know that I am doing this. I found at one of my dark times that writing poetry helped me enormously it was like a huge weight off my shoulders. Because of this, I have been trying to encourage others to do the same but at the same time sharing these private thoughts and words with others to raise awareness.
I would like to publish this book to coincide with Mental Health Awareness week in October. I am in the process of trying to raise funds to get this book published as a hardback. I’m still hoping that I can find a publisher to do this for me in which case the money raised (depending on the amount) will go to either the Mind charity or I will be setting up a charity myself to provide complementary therapies to people in crisis. Now I know what I’m doing I will be adding the GoFundMe page back onto the page.
I have also been busy making bracelets for this campaign too. I had some cards made which arrived last week and I have been busy attaching the bracelets to them. The bracelets are £5 each and will be available at my college White Rose Beauty College from next week and I will also be approaching some local shops. Depending on how many I can get made I might also sell them on here. All profits again will go straight to the campaign.
The threads for the bracelet are in shades of blue. The colour represents the campaign “A Darker Shade of Blue”. Also, I have used the small buttons as a reminder that sometimes it is the small things that keep the big things together. A simple thing such as asking someone if they are ok and then actually stopping and listening to what they say without interrupting can mean and help so much.
So if you can buy a bracelet please do and also if you would like to donate a poem I would really appreciate it. You don’t have to be a fantastic poet; just a list of words sometimes can speak volumes. This isn’t a writing competition it is purely to get voices heard and to raise awareness.
Studying Complementary Therapies
I am now studying complementary therapies at level 3. Hopefully, in September I will be doing level 4. I am doing this because I have always been interested in holistic therapies and anything to do with mind, body and spirit. I’ve collected crystals since a young child and have always been fascinated with Mother nature and all it involves.
I am already a Reiki practitioner but I am also learning Swedish massage, aromatherapy and reflexology. There are other treatments I would like to learn and provide; I will also be getting training in Hopi ear candling, Indian head massage and a variety of other therapies along my journey.
I would like to specialise in end of life, chronic health conditions (as I am a fibromyalgia sufferer) and for people in emotional crisis. I appreciate the importance of physical touch and its impact on a persons health.
While it is all well and good people on a good income can appreciate these therapies as a luxury for me I think it is more important for the people who can’t afford it and hence the wanting to set up the charity. As part of my learning, I have been practising for free on people with a variety of emotional and physical issues and the results have been amazing. The difference after treatment is unbelievable. This has made me even more focussed on helping others. You can follow me on this journey over at my website Karma Times.
As you know I took part in The Fast Fix and it was very successful and changed my health; as you can see I’m doing things now I could never even consider. However, at the end of last year, I went off the rails with it a bit; mainly because of emotional problems which are now sorted. But, over the Christmas period, I managed to put on just over a stone.
Now I could have kept quiet about this but I am not. I want people to see that it is difficult sometimes and we do lose track of our direction but ultimately everything and anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I have made the decision to restart my whole losing weight journey again and using Exante because I know it works.
However this time I will be turning it into a video diary as I believe this connects with people more and will be more helpful and hopefully motivational. I will be carrying on with this blog and my journey on that but the video diary will run alongside it. So anyone who wants to follow that please message me or leave a comment about things you want me to talk about on it. I will be covering things like motivation, product testings, Q&A’s, competitions, and a variety of other things.
Skill and Trade Swap Community
This week I set up a free skills and trade swap community in Harrogate. In this current economic climate, we have a lot of people needing things doing that they can’t afford to do or do not have the capability of doing due to illness, unemployment, loss of a partner, etc. I know this because I am one of them. I am also the type of person that shoulders on and doesn’t ask for help even when I desperately need it.
But it dawned on me that there are good people out there that would gladly give up their time and expertise to help others and get something in return. A feeling of doing something worthwhile that is appreciated and needed and maybe getting a huge sense of satisfaction. We all have skills that we can help others with even if it is walking someone’s dog due to the owner not being able to. Because of my illness I can’t look after my garden it has become too much so for me for example, I can pay back with free complementary therapies.
Each skill and trade is classed as equal. Every hour worked entitles someone to one virtual token. The token can be used with any of the members if they both agree. There is no financial exchange at all. At the moment this site/group is for my local community but it would be great if over time it could spread further afield. So it’s going to be a work in progress. I have set up a website now called Harrogate Trade Swap and it is for people in Harrogate and the surrounding area.
Handmade Jewellery and Candles
I am still making jewellery when I get time and you can find a selection in my Etsy Shop also called Karma Times.
When I get a chance I will be making a lot more candles.
It’s Been A While
So as you can see I may have been quiet on here but I have been very busy elsewhere and in the background. But hopefully now I will get more blogging done and video diaries. So here is a toast to the future and hopefully a better one too.
Have a fantastic weekend.
