You either love them or you hate them; a bit like marmite. Personally, I love them and am constantly craving ink and I need to get more tattoos. I honestly don’t know why they are so addictive but they are; extremely so. For those who have never had one they fucking hurt but in a very bizarre kind of way it’s a nice pain and afterwards, you are buzzing; well I am anyway.
The tattoos I have currently are an old school style tattoo on my left arm which is quite big but I love it; it is actually a cover-up. I have a line of writing on the inside of my upper left arm. “The Power is Within” to remind me that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. I have a feather on the inside of my left wrist; this is to remind me of angelic healing and positivity. My right arm has two Celtic tattoos which have been lasered and now waiting to be covered up. I am in communication at the minute with a fantastic tattoo artist Luke Whitehurst who works from North Star studio in Harrogate and Lee Devor who works from his studio in Ripon; I’ve commissioned him to do the cover-up.
Next Tattoos – Right Arm Cover-Up
I would like to have another old school cover-up of a fox (which is the symbol of Leicester where I was born) with his foot or chin on either a globe or a compass. I’m just deciding whether I want the fox wearing glasses so that he represents me and obviously the compass/globe represents home is where the heart is. I have sent Luke and Lee some images that I liked and I will share them with you in this post. I want a coverup based on these images.
Next Tattoos – Back Of Neck
I am also wanting a butterfly on the back of my neck. I want an old school style butterfly with a dagger for a body. This is to represent pain, hurt but that I am a fighter and the butterfly represents transformation; my transformation. Again I have sent some images to give some idea of what I am thinking of.
When the drawings have been done I will show you the results and then take you through the whole tattoo process from start to finish.
Advice For Choosing A Tattoo
My advice for someone having a tattoo done for the first time is please make sure that it means something to you. If it means something you won’t regret getting it done. I had to have my left and right arm lasered because I fell out of love with them very quickly. Please please please do not have your boyfriend or girlfriends name tattooed anyway; seriously it’s the kiss of death. You also have to decide whether you want colour or black and grey. Always research your tattoo artist as there are some out there who aren’t very good. There are a hell of a lot of good ones and the cost reflects this. Good ones also tend to have a waiting list. Some tattoo artists specialise in certain styles so do your homework.
Lasering A Tattoo
Now, this hurts! it feels like someone is constantly twanging an elastic band against your skin. You have to wear special glasses to protect your skin and you can smell an odd smell; a bit like roast pork. Then you have to cope with it being sore afterwards and sometimes blistering and it costs a fair bit of money. So please please make sure you get it right in the first place.
Other Tattoos I Would Like
I would like a large one on the bottom of my back; not a tramp stamp! but an artistic masterpiece. I would like one on my chest I’m just slightly worried about the public reaction which is really bad because I shouldn’t really care what others think. So I kneed to think on that one a bit more.
I Need To Get More Tattoos
It’s no good I need to get more tattoos; I need to get the ones I have mentioned this year and hopefully making a start next week. Something important is happening in January so I want them to be healed and done by then. More information on that towards the end of the year.
If you want to share photos of your tattoos you like please do.
Hope you had a great weekend and will check back in with you tomorrow.
