No Podcast Today
First of all apologies for the lack of a podcast today but I have been super busy this weekend being creative. I sometimes forget how important this is to me. There are times particularly when I am trying to lose weight that I will pick up some colouring pens at night time and an adult colouring book. Don’t get me wrong this is great it switches my head off and I zone out completely. But that kind of creativity is different to the creativity I was getting up to this weekend. So I thought it only right that today’s post should be about how being creative keeps me sane.
HowBeing Creative Keeps Me Sane
I think I can also use the word “play” in place of “creative” both are important. When we grow up we seem to be put into certain boxes and have to act like an adult. Sleep – Eat – Work – Eat – Sleep – Work. We need to make room for play and for being creative. Yes, I know not everyone wants to pick up a paintbrush and would hate the thought of baking a cake even. However, there are so many incredible ways to be creative. We need to take a few minutes and remind ourselves what we did as children that we enjoyed and start doing them again. Do things that make you happy regardless of what it is. Just as long as you are not hurting anyone in the process.
We Need Time-Out
We all need something in our lives that make us feel better about ourselves, accomplishing small things gives you a huge sense of satisfaction. As I said creativity can be many things as does play. Time-out from everyday stresses to me all fall under this heading. Life should be fun and we need to be able to find pleasure in different things and incorporate them into our daily lives.
It can be something as simple as going for a walk during your lunch break and just taking everything in. The sounds, the things that you can see, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy it. Simple things can have big impacts.
What Do You Like Doing?
Last Friday I was going through a few things and came upon my amazing stash of jewellery making stuff. I had forgotten how much I had. I used to love making jewellery but I had downed tools 2 years ago due to illness. So this weekend I got it all out and have been making jewellery like a mad thing and have had loads of fun. Making something from scratch, learning new techniques, being proud of the outcome gave me a lot of satisfaction.
So much so that everything I have made this weekend I have put into my Etsy shop. This was my dream so many years ago to make jewellery and paint for a living but I never felt I was good enough. One of the things I have learnt over the course of the past 12 months is that I am good enough. Before when I set up my shop I never really believed in myself not deep down so nothing ever came of it. Now, however, I know my worth and I know my passion and my desire and feel at last 100% of me believes that too. Yes, we have the odd niggle of doubt but when it pops its ugly head up now I give it a smack and knock that bitch out.
I am doing what I am good at which is writing, podcasting, supporting others, painting, jewellery making and anything else I see fit. So what I want you to do is think about in what ways you like to be creative, what things you would like to try and get on with them. You don’t have to be brilliant at what you do the main thing is that you enjoy it; enjoy the process. Give yourself some play time; some time-out.
For anyone that is interested, you can find my Etsy shop here. I have been making bracelets this weekend mens, womens and unisex.
