I absolutely love this time of year. Christmas has been and gone thank god and it is that bit between Christmas and New Year. I get a tingle inside my tummy and fluttering in the chest and why? Because I’m excited at the prospect of a new year and a new me. Today’s post is how anticipation made me a better person and how it can make you a better person too.
Prepare For Your New Year’s Resolution
A lot of people go wrong with their new year resolution because they don’t prepare for it. They try not to think about it and wait for it to suddenly be the day and it is a case of “right that’s it no more chocolate”. Well sorry but the chances are you will last about a week two at the most. Some of the hardcore among you might last a month.
The reason why is because you haven’t prepared yourself and you haven’t thought it through. How you are going to go about it, what will your coping mechanisms be when it gets hard, the reasons why you are doing something different, the goals, etc. So the first thing we are going to do is get some extremely important equipment to make a start and it doesn’t have to be expensive either. So on to the next step…
Notebook And Pen
Now if you don’t have a pad or notebook go out and get yourself a lovely one in the sales you don’t need to spend a lot but get one you really like the look of in fact go wild. While you are at it get yourself a lovely writing pen too. It’s time to get your shit together.
Assess The Year
Now make yourself a tea or coffee, get comfy you are going on a journey. I want you to think back through the year and write a list of everything that you were not happy about and be honest with yourself. It can be absolutely anything you can think of however big or small. So at the top of the page write “Not Happy With” and get writing. When you have exhausted that list start a new page and at the top write “Things I Am Happy About” Get it all down in front of you. Be as thorough as you can with both lists.
It’s amazing when you get going how much you had forgotten about if you find it easier try and go through one month at a time and have a page to a month whatever is more beneficial to you.
Time To Digest
Once you have finished get another drink and sit down and read through each list. When you are ready look at each one of the things you weren’t happy about and have a think to yourself and see if you think you could have done something differently. On a new page put a heading “Things I Need To Change/Improve And How”. Write down the thing you are not happy with and then write underneath it ways you think you could change this in the future.
With the things you were happy about; how did each one make you feel? How did it make others feel? etc. You don’t have to do this all in one sitting you can do it over a couple of days it’s completely up to you. I personally just get stuck in. Either way, you will end up with some good information and it will give you some good things to think about before you start the New Year.
Losing Weight As An Example
I would guess that losing weight is one of the top New Year Resolutions that gets made by people; especially as the chances are you have had a massive blow out over the Christmas period and are feeling really sluggish, your clothes are feeling tighter. Chances are though you haven’t really thought too much about how you are going to do it.
Some might, however, think they will start Weight Watchers or Slimming World. If that is what you want to do then great. Personally, I have used both and they don’t work for me. I would save weight watcher points to eat a week’s worth of chocolate in a day. Also when I went to Slimming World I could eat as much as I liked of pasta or potatoes on a green day. Nooooo just not good for you, too many carbs and you have started your journey to the word of type 2 diabetes; how do I know this? Because that’s what happened to me. I also resent paying someone nearly £10 a week to get weighed I can do that myself and it costs me nothing.
Knowledge Is Key
To lose weight and successfully you need to know what the things are that you are putting in your mouth so you need to read up if you want to smash it. Find the diet that is best for you, something that is easy. Now this time last year I was preparing myself for my weight loss journey. I was getting ready to join four complete strangers in a house down South to lose weight and reverse my type 2 diabetes. A lot of you who have been following me know all about this journey. But for those that don’t please click here.
I found through the documentary a lot of information about keto diets and the effect of ketosis on your body and your health and wellbeing. To learn about ketosis please click here. This is why this New Year I will be focussing on a low-carb diet. Now to get yourself started on the route of losing weight this way you may find it easier to start with by using the diet meal replacement shakes and bars through Exante. These are the products we used in the ITV documentary and not only do they work but they taste fantastic too. No counting points or calories etc. Just 4 packs a day and that’s it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. If you decide to go down the Exante route please feel free to use my exclusive money off code TRACEY35 and you will get a whopping 35% off your shop.
Anyway back to knowledge. You need to know what you are doing and the reasons why you are doing it. With the shakes, for example, I knew that a very low-calorie diet would help me shift loads of weight, fast and safe and why. You also need to look at the healthy lifestyle you will adopt after using these shakes for example. For me it has to be low carb otherwise I will end up getting type 2 diabetes again. So for me this year I will be following a low carb or keto diet. I will be writing about this along with my journey. At the same time, I will be here to support people in the first stage of losing weight fast and safely with the Exante products.
So for those of you that decide to start your journey the way I did with Exante when you are ready to come off you will be able to read my posts and recipes that will be coming about a low carb diet. I will get the knowledge and the recipes and the hard work done for you.
Things Othe Than Weight Loss
You might look at your list and discover that you want to incorporate more exercise into your life. Stop using the car if it isn’t needed. I have a little shop about a ten-minute walk away and use the car! I need to stop that and that is going to be one thing on my list of things to change for next year. Other examples are using stairs instead of lifts, get off the bus one stop earlier, got for a ten-minute walk at your lunch break. Can you walk to work? or walk back? Maybe get a bicycle a lot of companies now have off a bike to work incentive.
Maybe you want to eat healthier snacks instead of chocolate and crisps. Reduce the number of takeaways that you have. You can make some fantastic meals in as quick as it takes to order one and its a damn site cheaper and tastier most of the time. Throughout the year I will be sharing some cookery books with you. Maybe you want to learn something new? Get a new hobby? The local schools to me offer adult training in all sorts of things, sewing, woodwork, painting, the list is endless it really is.
How Anticipation Made Me A Better Person
Now going back to the beginning and the point I was trying to make of how anticipation made me a better person. I love this time of year, this little bit between Christmas and New Year. It fills me with anticipation of thepossibilitiess of the upcoming year and they are all down to me. Little old me can change my life in so many different ways and I find that exciting. A New Year and a new start can be the start of the best version of yourself; this time next year you could be a completely different person. So get writing your lists, digest them, think about what you can change.
Think About Your Dreams
It is also time to write a bucket list. What is it you want to achieve in life? Where would you like to be not just next year but in five years time or ten years time? Really think hard about this because these are your goals. You can achieve these goals and no one is stopping you but you! So get thinking, get writing, prepare and just do it!
A Book To Help You Focus On Your Goals And Dreams
This is a book that I wrote last year for a friend who was at a point in life and didn’t know which way to go. He has now set up a new business and is happy in a new relationship. Making lists can be an amazing tool and can help you focus on the things you need to. Sometimes in life you can’t see the wood for the trees. If you want to buy this book you can find it on Amazon right here.
I would love to hear your goals and dreams and how you get on over the next 12 months. I’m excited for you!
My goal is a change of career and moving down the caring and healing side of things. I have learnt about nutrition and fitness this past year and now I am learning all about the holistic side. At 49 I am going to be doing a 2yr course in 6 months. Now if I can do this with fibromyalgia I don’t want to hear any of your excuses why you can’t do something similar. There are ways around everything just don’t give up at the first hurdle. There is more than one way to do anything. I’m living proof.
I’ve got your back so start your journey today.
