The Weekend Is Upon Us
Today is day 6 of 28 of my join me and lose weight for good plan and I thought it would be important to do a post today as a lot of you that are starting this week this will be your first weekend on a very low calorie diet (VLCD). I find the weekend the hardest and still do to be honest compared to the rest of the week. In my “old” life weekends would be filled with treats. I think this goes back to being a kid about 200 years ago now; we would have a bag of sweets and other little goodies and that’s how I carried on until this year. 40+ years of naughtiness on a weekend isn’t going to disappear overnight.
Day 6 of 28 Of My Join Me And Lose Weight For Good Plan
To get around this I try and treat weekends a bit differently to the week. I try and make it all a bit more special in whatever way I can. So I am going to share some tips with you today on just that. In the house instead of a glass wine at night we had sparkling water in a beautiful glass with a thin slice of lemon and lime. Some people will now start shouting you can’t do that it will kick you out of ketosis. All I can say is that never happened to the five of us so give it a go and see how you get on. We would also put a sprig of mint in and ice. We would pretend it was our gin and tonic and it worked for us.
Now I’m not doing the total solution purely because I find that is too strict for me although the occasional day is fine. This is also because I go to the gym and 600 calories would not be enough to keep me healthy. I stick to the 800 calories a day and with a bit of a healthy food snack on gym days as mentioned in a recent post.
If like me you struggle at weekend the one thing I do is have a small bowl of berries and eat them slowly at night; which was the time I used to stuff my face with chocolate. I know this isn’t sticking to the “diet” but it works for me. A small bowl of raspberries, blackberries and strawberries isn’t going to cause much damage especially if you have an active lifestyle. If you want to strict rigidly to the 4 shakes or bars then I suggest chopping up a bar into chunks and use that instead of berries.
Something I am going to try tomorrow is make some kale crisps to snack on so come back for that one and see how I get on with it.
One Other Thing
Now by day 5/6 you might find your toilet habits change. There is no nice way to put this so if you don’t like talking about this kind of stuff please skip to the next paragraph. We are talking poo! Because you are on a VLCD there is a good chance at this point you may start to become constipated. Don’t panic it is purely because you don’t have enough fibre going through your gut anymore.
This is a time to start drinking more water. Gentle exercise is also a good idea to get things going and failing that get yourself some fybogel it works wonders. During the house we were split with this side effect 3 of us had constipation and the remaining 2 had the complete opposite effect and had to stay very close to the toilet until they got used to it. Either way there are ways to deal with it so don’t worry.
One More Tip
Don’t think of the weekend as a whole just concentrate on “the moment” it is easier that way. If you get hungry and start thinking about having just one biscuit put your brakes on for 2 minutes, after that 2 minutes do another 2 minutes, and so on. You will reach a point when you don’t want the biscuit. Also as mentioned in Day 5 divert your attentions to something else; for me it is adult colouring books – works wonders! Cleaning your teeth is also a good one and painting your nails. While in the house I started teaching myself embroidery and that helped me a lot too.
It is a very good time to take up new hobbies. So get your thinking cap on and write a list of all those things you’ve wanted to have a go at. And remember you don’t have to be fantastic at it you just need to enjoy it.
As you know it is now day 6 of 28 of my join me and lose weight for good plan and you should also not be feeling so hungry now either. So keep it up you are doing amazingly well and week 1 is almost over. Please read the other posts if you haven’t done so as it may help you over the weekend.
