One Day To Go
So you have decided to finally shift that weight. You are probably going mad today eating anything and everything having one last binge. I can’t tell you off I am currently eating a piece of Christmas cake but not the whole cake. But.. like you I will be doing my final push as of tomorrow alongside you all. The difference is though I know that this method works and works quickly. I know there are a lot of new people just about to start their Exante weight loss journey. A lot of you know but for those that don’t I took part in ITV’s The Fast Fix Diabetes at the beginning of the year and we used Exante diet meal replacement shakes and very successfully too. Going on my experience I am now about to give you a blog post which is a countdown to losing weight and how to prepare for it so you succeed.
Countdown To Losing Weight And How To Prepare For It So You Succeed
A lot of people who start a diet don’t really prepare themselves for it. This is not a good idea because as soon as you reach your first hurdle you might fall off the wagon. You need to prepare yourself for every eventuality. Therefore I am going to share with you the things that I did to help myself and hopefully, they will help you too.
Go Through Your Cupboards And Fridge
Now, this is a chore but it is an important one. If like me you don’t like throwing things away you can bag the contraband and give it to a family member or a friend or donate to a food bank. But go through your cupboards and get rid of anything that you know you will be tempted by. I know this is difficult if you have family members but maybe get them to keep temptation in their own room or a special place just for them.
It sounds tough but I just didn’t buy it again. If a family member wanted a chocolate bar they bought it themselves and I just didn’t buy the stuff. It is a good time to try and introduce healthier snacks for the family as opposed to the usual crap. I know that they are not on a diet but this isn’t just a diet it is going to be a lifestyle change. I say this because if it isn’t a lifestyle change you will be doing the very same thing next year and again the following year. So be brave and just get rid!
Acknowledge It Won’t Be Easy
I won’t lie to you it won’t be easy to start with but it is doable. Surprisingly, from about day 5 it does get easier so hang on in there. Just focus on one day at a time.
Drink Plenty Of Water
This goes without saying and the people that don’t succeed with the weight loss tend to be the ones who do not drink enough water. I was terrible at this. What I do now is set an alarm on my phone and it goes off at 10 am, midday, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm and 8 pm. Every time it goes off I drink 500ml of water. This for me is the best way. 500ml is a very easy amount to consume and it all adds up.
If you don’t like the taste of water Exante do some great water enhancers. I particularly love the cranberry flavoured one. You can get a 20% discount for this using my exclusive code TRACEY20. The 20% discount code only works on non-diet meal replacement shakes, bars and meals. It is purely for the other bits and pieces. I do have a larger discount code for meals, shakes and bars which is at the bottom of the blog.
Best Way To Do Your Shakes
Now the very first shake I had was made with water straight from the tap and I won’t lie I nearly threw up. I hated it. But because I was being filmed I had no choice I had 12 weeks of consuming these things. We very quickly thought we would try it with fridge cold water and the next one tasted a lot better. I still wasn’t keen but believe me by the end of the first week I absolutely loved them and couldn’t wait for the next one. So hang on in there if you don’t like them they will grow on you.
Your taste buds change so much over the following months. The first diet coke I had following the diet was disgusting it was so sickly, I also tried an apple and the same thing happened. Also, you can throw in a couple of ice cubes into your shake and blend it that way.
Try All The Flavours
Now don’t buy 50 of something if you haven’t tried it first. Everyone’s taste is different what one person might like you might not. I thought I would like chocolate but I didn’t. My favourites were all the pink ones. Some people prefer the savoury ones and some lucky people like absolutely everything. If for example, you find you end up with flavours you don’t like you could always mix two together to create a different flavour. Just don’t drink the whole thing and don’t prepare one in advance for later as the taste changes dramatically and isn’t very nice. Always make fresh.
Also, there is a product called flavour drops on the My Protein website which are sugar-free and can change the taste of flavours you don’t like. So don’t throw them away. They actually do a gorgeous sugar-free butterscotch sauce which is fantastic with the Exante lemon pancakes (I cook mine in a waffle maker).
Get Yourself Into A Routine
I found it a lot easier if I got myself into a routine. 10 am for my first shake, 2 pm for the second shake, 5 pm for my savoury meal followed by another shake or dessert at 7 pm. You don’t have to use the same times as me but get yourself into a routine.
Now again from experience keep a bar in your handbags. I also had a small beaker with the mixer balls inside, with a sealed sachet in it. Believe me, this came to be a lifesaver. There were a couple of times during the year I had to fly off to the hospital due to family members being ill etc. I literally just grabbed the beaker and was able to go straight away. I also had the bar in my bag. If I hadn’t have had these I would have been drinking hot chocolate and eating rubbish from the hospital shop due to the long waits that occurred.
Keep a bar in your glovebox, drawer at work, just prepare yourself for every eventuality. Another good idea for keeping one at work is that when people have birthdays and bring in a cake; just cut a bar in half and join in without causing too much damage. If you are a snacker and miss biscuits with your coffee you can always chop one of your bars into 3 and have a piece with each coffee just remember to count that as one of your products for the day.
Find A Distraction
The worst time for me was at night time. I quickly realised I was a night snacker. TV on and hand in a bag of sweets, eating chocolate, just aimlessly munching my way through anything and I wasn’t even hungry. Comfort eating was a big thing for me. The best way for me to cope with this was by using adult colouring books. Believe me, if you haven’t tried them give them a go. When I got the urge to snack I used to get the colouring book out and within 5 minutes I had completely forgotten about the snack and was in my own little zone. It actually was very meditative and helped me to relax. Get yourselves some nice felt tips and a book and there are so many to choose from these days.
When I was in the documentary I started embroidery, the first time since school, and it had the same effect. I embroidered loads of bugs and insects onto a white t-shirt. I never wore it but I enjoyed doing it and it took my mind off it. You can always start drawing, give yourself a manicure, run a bath, just think of ways you can cope with distraction. This is so very important.
I know you don’t want to but you don’t need to show anyone but believe me when you get to goal you will thank me and you will want to show everyone. Be Brave you can do it. One from the front, one from the side, and one from the back. There will be weeks where you don’t lose weight and these photos are a fantastic way of keeping you on track because you can see just how far you have come.
Write Everything Down
After taking the photos get measuring yourself. You need a day one set of measurements again I promise you will thank me yet again. I measure my bust, underbust, widest part, waist, hips, both thighs, both calves, and both upper arms. Obviously your weight too. Now there are loads of apps out there you can use and a lot of them are free or you can get yourself a little notebook just for the purpose. I have created a diet journal which is available on Amazon which has charts in for this purpose, weekly measurements, monthly measurements, 3 monthly and so on. Also, I just find that if I write everything down I am more likely to stick to it. I measure myself the same day every week and the same time. Your loss will fluctuate but the weeks that the loss is slow you might lose inches and not weight.
I also wrote a book about my whole experience in the documentary, my weight loss journey and all sorts of coping mechanisms so you may find that useful. There are also some behind the scenes photos from the documentary here.
There are also lots of hints and tips on my blog. You can find a link to the books on the right-hand side of my blog. If you join the newsletter you get a free low carb diet ebook which you can use when you’ve reached goal or for your food weeks depending on what diet you are following.
I personally do 4 sachets a day and if I do a big session at the gym I have a chicken breast or an omelette.
Set A Goal
Make sure you know why it is you are wanting to lose weight, it can be anything, it does not have to be just one thing either. Maybe you are going on holiday in the Summer and just want to look good, health reasons – I reversed my type 2 diabetes, just stay focused on these things. Write it somewhere and look at it every single day.
Believe me, you can run out quite quickly. I always made sure I had at least a months supply extra than what I needed. Because sometimes your favourite flavours go out of stock. You don’t want to jeopardise your diet so make sure you have enough in. Remember you can also use my exclusive code TRACEY35 to get a HUGE 35% off your shop which makes a huge difference.
Last but not least I want to wish you lots of luck and you can do this! I have every faith in you and in me! It’s time to change your life once and for all.
I’m looking forward to reading and seeing your results. Please don’t be afraid to leave comments, ask questions etc.
Let’s do this!
