Drum roll, please. Well, the time has come for me to make the announcement of my new venture. As you have probably guessed jewellery is going to be a major part of it. Making jewellery has always been a hobby of mine and I have been doing it on and off for approximately 25 years. As you can imagine over that time I have gathered a lot of bits and pieces and desperately need a place to work from as my home is not easy. I need a proper space that contains everything rather than a few things in each room of the house which is pretty much like it is at the minute.
Workshop and Shop Location
My fab friend Lee, Tattooist extraordinaire and owner of Angel & Demon Tattoo shop in the beautiful market town of Ripon; actually just remembered it is actually a city as it has its own Cathedral. Anyway, Lee has very kindly let me use his back room at his shop as a workshop. In return, I am helping him in his shopfor a few hours; don’t worry I’m not tattooing; not with my shaky hands. I must admit I am definitely finding it harder to use the tools. My hands are definitely not as steady as they used to be. I found that out this weekend with beads flying everywhere; I lost count of how many times. The air was blue lol.
My jewellery will be available to buy exclusively from the tattoo shop or online via this blog. I specialise in men’s jewellery mainly bracelets, although some of them are definitely unisex; and I wear them! I do women’s bracelets too and I will also be making some chakra jewellery.
I try to use natural gemstones, precious and semi-precious stones whenever possible. However, I am aware that not everyone can afford those so I will be making a lower priced alternative. They will look pretty much the same but they definitely won’t look cheaper.
I will offer a restringing service for those that need it where possible. It is very difficult to make a bracelet in a size that fits everyone. If there is a bracelet you really like but it is too small or too big, depending on my material and stock I might be able to restring it so that it fits for you exactly. I think the majority at the minute are around the 7″-8″ although there are a few smaller.
Keepsake and Remembrance Jewellery
One service that I will also be offering is keepsake/remembrance jewellery. I am a very sentimental person and empathy and compassion are two of my strongest points. This kind of work is therefore ideal for me as it has great meaning behind everything that I will be doing.
I will be working with the ashes of loved ones; including pets etc. It will involve me sending you a small pack in the post. Inside will be a small bag for you to put the ashes in (less than 1/4 tsp), and a stamped addressed envelope. Please note any remaining ashes that are not used will be returned safely.
The End Result
With these ashes, I will make a faceted bead with a solid silver 925 insert. These will be large enough to fit on the popular charm bracelets, ie. Pandora, Troll Beads, etc. The beads will contain crushed opal and resin so will sparkle slightly in a rainbow of colours. Rainbows are significant to me as my friends will know. I get excited at the sight of a rainbow as much now as I did as a child. But for me, symbolically it means I am on the right track and I always see it as a positive thing, and also the end of a storm on an emotional level. I hope that makes sense.
Please note that I can also make keepsake beads as above but with a very small amount of hair inside too if wished for people, pets and even horses. The beads above have brass inserts however the beads I will be selling will be solid silver 925.
I have looked into this for a personal reason and the prices out there are extortionate. Probably because they are making them with glass but even so they don’t justify the price of £195 each which is what one of them is charging and others aren’t far off either. I have therefore been wanting to make my announcement of my new venture sooner rather than later as I feel so passionate about it.
I feel very strongly that this is something that should be made available to everyone who wants it as I know I couldn’t afford £195 for one bead, no matter how important it was to me. My prices, therefore, will reflect this. The materials used will also be of the highest quality and made by myself.
In addition, I will also be making a selection of friendship style bracelets one of which I am wearing today. This one consists of a sterling silver circle (a symbol of infinity and karma) and a hand made macrame adjustable band. This is actually quite a dainty bracelet and I love it. Other meaningful friendship bracelets will be made too, inclduing the morse code bracelets, spelling words out in beads.
I am therefore just in the process of getting organised for the workshop and everything else that is involved but it should all be up and running by the end of the month; god willing.
I will, therefore, make posts over the next couple of weeks to keep you up to date with progress. In the meantime, if anyone would like to ask me any questions about this please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I hope you like my announcement of my new venture as much as I do.
All my love
