As I have mentioned in previous posts raising awareness for mental health issues is very important to me. 16 people take their own life every day in this country and that is 16 too many. There are a lot of people suffering out there and a lot of them don’t talk about it because they are frightened to be labelled a nutter or crazy.
Let Us Get Rid Of The Stigma Of Mental Health
Mental health is an illness and it is time the stigma around it disappears completely. There are such a lot of illnesses that come under the umbrella of mental health. A lot of people do not know how to get the help that they need and are afraid of worrying their loved ones particularly men.
I am using my original artwork on various products to help promote mental health awareness. Products so far consist of mugs, badges, greeting cards, fabric, t-shirts, fabric and more will be added soon.

For anyone out there who thinks a love one, or a colleague is suffering all you need to do is to listen and acknowledge what they are saying. Don’t tell them to snap out of it as that is the worst thing you can do. When they do talk about it please stop what you are doing and listen – it has taken so much for them to have opened up to you. Acknowledge – you don’t have to understand what they are going through to help tell just tell them that you hear them and you are there for them. Follow it up and be there – send them a message and ask if they are ok; do anything but do not ignore.
I don’t care what anyone says more people suffer from depression and anxiety than you realise. People who suffer terribly with these illnesses can also come across as not being depressed. It presents itself differently in different people.
It’s time we started to be a more caring and educated nation and I would love you to help me to do this. The more that people talk about it the better. The Heads Together, Mind and Samaritans do amazing work but it is not enough they need our help too.
Do me a favour this weekend tell the people who are important in your life that you love them. If you haven’t talked to your mum for a bit give her a ring just to say hello. Something else you can do is to smile at strangers – this can have the most amazing effect on someone who is feeling sad. You might feel a bit strange at first but you will soon notice someone smiling back – that is priceless.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone.
